Impairment, speed possible factors of a fatal crash near Thermopolis
A one-car rollover early Friday morning between Thermopolis and Meeteetse resulted in the death of a 23-year-old man from Texas and the filing of multiple charges against the driver, including aggravated homicide by vehicle and possession of a controlled substance.
In a release, the Wyoming Highway Patrol identified the victim as Avery Heston, an unrestrained passenger who was partially ejected from the vehicle during the rollover. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The WHP did not identify the driver, but indicated in its accident narrative that the 1996 Dodge Ram was eastbound near milepost 26 on Wyoming State Highway 120 when it crossed the center line and ran off the roadway to the north at approximately 12:45 a.m. The driver overcorrected and the vehicle slid across the lanes of travel and off the roadway to the south before becoming airborne and rolling multiple times.
