Individual charged for public dumping
Ken Blackburn, Big Horn County Sheriff, advised the public to be on watch for those who are dumping illegally on public lands. Dumping involves disposal of anything illegally on public lands including game, defunct appliances and garbage.
Recently, the Big Horn County Sheriff Office and the Wyoming Department of Game and Fish Department issued a citation to an individual who was dumping on public lands.
The sheriff’s department heard word from a citizen that an individual dumped an elk carcass in the area of Frog Rock. The citizen gave a description of the vehicle and subject. Law enforcement made contact with the individual and issued a citation according to Wyoming Game and Fish rules.
The individual was cited for failure to properly dispose of a game animal with chronic wasting disease. The individual was issued a criminal infraction, must pay a $250 fine and is directed to appear in court.
“We want to thank the public for caring enough to give us cases that we could investigate and bring to a successful resolution,” Blackburn said.
Recently, volunteer groups of Rocky Mountain High School students have been cleaning up the dumping areas near Frog Rock. Blackburn commended the students for their civic efforts. Since the cleanup efforts were last noted in the paper, students cleaned up three additional areas.
