Laura A. Nation
Dec. 1, 1927 - Oct. 14, 2014
Laura A. Nation, 86, died on Oct. 14, 2014, at New Horizons Care Center in Lovell. Laura was born on Dec. 1, 1927, in Byron. She was the third child born to Griffith Young Abraham and Annie Laura Cowley. She married John James Nation on June 22, 1944. They had five children: Laurel Mae, Catherine Ann, Victoria Jean, John Delmar and Jerry Robert. She and John were married for 55 years before John died on Sept. 30, 1999.
Laura and John raised the six children, John Robert, Sidney Oscar, William Donald, Teresa Marie, James Arthur and George Edward, of their daughter Laurel Mae when she and her husband Art Rusch died on Oct. 29, 1984.
She worked at the Great Western Sugar Factory for 19 years.
Laura really loved watching sports, especially the Rocky Mountain Grizzlies, while the school was in Byron. She attended all of the sporting events. It didn’t matter if it was raining or snowing, she was always there. She was even presented with an award for No. 1 Grizzly Fan.
She also loved to play bingo and canasta and loved yard sales. To most, Laura was called “Mama Nation.” She was everybody’s “Mama” because she was caring and took care of everyone and treated them as her own children. She made sure that they did right and followed the rules.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her daughters Catherine Ann and Laurel Mae; her sisters Marie Mae, Georgie La Ru Moore, Katherine Eudora Mauch and Annajean Goff; grandson Charles L. Moore Jr. and her parents Griffith Young Abraham and Annie Cowley Abraham.
She is survived by her brother John James Abraham; her daughter Victoria Jean Nation Bell; her sons John Delmar Nation and Jerry Robert Nation; seven grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Lovell Bible Church on Wednesday, Oct. 22 with burial in the Byron Cemetery. Pastor McNabb conducted the service.
