Letter to the Editor: Wyoming should not stand for Trump actions

Dear Editor,

Donald Trump is a coward and threatens all of us with civil war, and so do his craven supporters. Witness the ICE agent shooting a female foreign reporter in the back with a rubber bullet. She was armed with a microphone. With her back turned, she somehow represented an extreme threat to the ICE agent.

Trump has “let loose the dogs of war,” “Hit for spit,” “tip for tap,” “quid pro quo.” Bully for you, Trump. If you persist and incite civil war, the rules of war will also apply to you and your bullies. You, Trump, are the shame of our nation.

I know Wyoming is a heavily Republican state, and most voted for Trump because he will “protect our borders.” Wait for it... We are a landlocked state with no foreign borders. John Barasso made a point of being a solid Trump supporter, and his ads told us that Trump would do a better job with our borders. I wish he, Cynthia Lummis and Harriet Hageman were as zealous about saying no to the lobbyists. In my opinion, as a physician myself, Dr. Barasso is the epitome of greed and corruption. He has taken money from the pharmaceutical industry to keep the rest of us paying more for life-saving drugs in lock-step with his fellow Republicans. Then these Republicans voted to axe Medicaid. Somebody should ask Harriet if she is going to participate in any more town hall meetings.

To the point, if Trump had singled out Wyoming for his ICE raids, real cowboys would not stand for it. We are a first-degree state. Chances are, if you don’t know somebody in the state, you likely know somebody who does know that person. The horror stories about ICE raids in California have not been fabricated. Where are the violent criminals? What and where are the acts of war these “illegals” committed? These fools just showed up for work. They are now on their way to El Salvador.

This is why the world needs more cowboys. A Cowboy’s Code of the West paraphrased from Gene Autry:

1  The cowboy must never shoot first, hit a smaller man or take unfair advantage.

2  He must never go back on his word or a trust confided in him.

3  He must always tell the truth even when conflicted.

4  He must be gentle with children, the elderly and the animals.

5  He must not advocate or possess racially or religiously intolerant ideas.

6  He must help people in distress.

7  He must be a good worker.

8  He must keep himself clean in thought, speech, action and personal habits.

9  He must respect women, parents and his nation’s laws.

10 The cowboy is a patriot.

11 He must ride hard, shoot straight and stomp his own snakes.
