Lovell athletes earn All-State honors in cheer and dance
Several Lovell High School athletes were recognized among the state’s best following the recent Wyoming Coaches Association and Wyoming Spirit Coaches Association All-State Cheerleading and Dance event.
The event is typically held in person, but dangerous winds which closed roads across Wyoming last week forced organizers to shift to a virtual, video-based format.
Earning First Team 3A All-State Cheerleader honors were Haley Sanders, Lindsey Scheid-Leonhardt and Ella Spanier, highlighting a strong showing from the Lovell cheer program.
Lovell was also well represented on the First Team 3A All-State Dance team, with Candace Walker, Kelce Winterholler, and Ella Spanier earning recognition. Spanier’s selection in both cheer and dance reflects her versatility and ability to perform at a high level across multiple disciplines.
All-State selections were determined through a statewide evaluation process in which athletes learned a cheer and dance routine and then performed it for judges. The format emphasized each participant’s ability to quickly learn choreography, perform under pressure, and demonstrate strong technique and school spirit.
These selections reflect exceptional performance, leadership and dedication within cheer and dance programs across Wyoming. Athletes were nominated by coaches statewide, with final honors determined through scoring and video review.
Lovell cheer coach Nicole Hendershot praised the athletes following the announcement.
“These athletes have served as team captains this year, demonstrating exceptional dedication, leadership and commitment to our team,” Hendershot said. “Throughout the year, they set a strong example both in practice and performance, with energy and spirit that consistently stand out.”
She added that the All-State process presented unique challenges this year.
“Despite a rigorous and challenging All-State audition process, made even more difficult by a shift from in-person to virtual due to weather, each athlete rose to the occasion,” she said. “Their hard work and perseverance paid off, earning them well-deserved spots on the All-State team.”
