The Cowley Progress
For the benefit of Latter-day Saints students it may be stated that the high school earnestly hopes that everyone of you will avail yourselves of the opportunity to get the full benefit of the religious training offered you in the Cowley Seminary under the able leadership of Mr. Emil Whiteside. This is an important department that no other high school in the state has ever had. This department is by itself and is held in the Welch building.

Most Lovell stores will be closed this afternoon from 1 p.m. on to allow employees to attend the events scheduled for the Lovell Day show being staged by the Commercial Club. The 1950 affair will get underway at 12:30 with the parade on Main Street led by the local service battery of the 300th Armored Field Artillery of the Wyoming National Guard.
Following the parade the horse show and field events will be staged at the rodeo grounds on the armory field in the southeast section of town. Later at 4:30 p.m. there will be special entertainment for the kids at the athletic field. In the evening there will be a good baseball game between the Lovell Jaycees and the Thermopolis team, which should be a close match. There will also be a square dance at the Byron open air pavilion.

Several houses are under construction or nearing completion in and around Lovell. Most unique of these is the geodesic dome style home being built near the cemetery by Frank Somer. It will be solar heated, covered with fiberglass panels and two stories tall.

George Preis of Lovell was in fine form recently at the World Horseshoe Tournament in Bismarck, N.D., as he finished third in his division. Preis, always an active pitcher, has increased his participation in tournaments since his retirement from teaching. He spent two weeks in Bismarck at the World Tournament, which featured the best of the best from the United States, Canada, Japan and Sweden.

An online adoption process began on Tuesday and will continue through September 3. During that time period, about 20 wild mustangs from the Pryor Mountain Wild Horse Range will be made available to buyers from qualified homes. As of Tuesday, about a dozen horses were listed on the site, along with information about each horse. The Pryor Mountain Wild Mustang Center in Lovell has more extensive information about each horse on its website, including information about the horse’s background and personality. The goal of the gather is to remove 15-20 horses between the ages of 1 and 3.
