State Parks to waive entry fees this Friday

For the sixth year in a row, Wyoming State Parks are waiving entry fees on Black Friday to encourage families “to opt outside” instead of going shopping.
The event is intended to promote going outside, giving thanks and spending time in nature. Wyoming has 13 state parks, two of them in the Big Horn Basin:  Medicine Lodge Archaeological Site near Hyattville, Buffalo Bill State Park west of Cody and Hot Springs State Park in Thermopolis.

Laursen and Banks sign resolution in support of Israel

Senator Dan Laursen and Representative Dalton Banks have both signed a resolution that affirms support for Israel’s war efforts in Gaza and condemns Hamas.
The resolution was initiated by Laursen himself, who released a draft with 35 lawmaker signatures supporting the resolution on November 9. During a discussion with the Lovell Chronicle last week, Laursen said he has since gained six more signatures, bringing the amount of support to 41 lawmakers. He said he expects other lawmakers to continue to join in.

Public Health to offer community CPR classes

Big Horn County Nurse Manager Hillary Mulley was at the commission’s November 7 meeting to provide a department update.
CPR classes will be offered soon. Mulley said they would offer two classes — one for those wishing to renew their CPR card and one for those needing a new card. If there is sufficient interest, they will offer the classes once a month.

Cordes leaves a strong record of service at Lovell Post Office

Victor Cordes took the position of postmaster at the Lovell post office 13½ years ago, he began to forge a legacy of what a smalltown post office should look like, a post office dedicated to serving the community.
Cordes will retire from the U.S. Postal Service at the end of November, wrapping up a 33-year career, counting five years in the U.S Navy.
For Cordes, his philosophy is simple: Serve the community in the best way possible.

New staffing rules would impact local care center

Wyoming Senators wrote a letter to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) expressing concern over proposed legislation requiring minimum staffing requirements in nursing homes.
The new legislation requires a registered nurse (RN) to be on staff 24/7 at nursing homes as well as requiring RNs and nurse aides (NA) to work a certain number of hours per day relative to the number of patients.

Seckman: Lovell town finances in good shape

The Town of Lovell received a financial clean bill of health last week at the regular November 14 town council meeting in the form of an audit report by CPA James Seckman of Powell.
Seckman, in a summary presented to the council, said the only minor issue with the town finances is the segregation of duties, which happens in most small towns.
“There is a way to get around it,” Seckman said, noting that the town could have “compensating controls” like having a member of the town council sign checks.

In search for missing Cody woman, authorities find blood in ex’s vehicle

POWELL — Authorities investigating the disappearance of a Cody woman found dried blood and an apparent bullet hole in the vehicle she was last seen traveling in, court records say.
The SUV is owned by Katie Ferguson’s ex-boyfriend, Adam Aviles Jr., who was arrested last week amid the investigation. Aviles is facing a federal charge that alleges he illegally possessed ammunition, but the 26-year-old has not been charged in connection with Ferguson’s disappearance.
