CHEYENNE — Efforts to remake, rather than to defund, the Wyoming Business Council continued Monday as the second week of the 68th Wyoming Legislature’s budget session got underway.

The Senate Minerals, Business and Economic Development Committee passed Senate File 125, “Wyoming business council-amendments,” in a 4-1 vote.

Senate adds millions to recalibration bill

CHEYENNE — A panel of lawmakers voted Monday to add millions of dollars to a controversial K-12 school funding recalibration bill.

The Senate Education Committee voted 5-0 to send Senate File 81, “K-12 public school finance-2,” back to the Senate floor with an additional $127.1 million in education funding, spread out over the next two years and across the state’s 48 school districts.

Freedom Caucus lawmaker Bear accepted controversial campaign check from activist; other legislators remain mum

CHEYENNE — The former head of the Wyoming Freedom Caucus and chairman of one of the Legislature’s most powerful committees told a reporter Monday that he, too, had accepted a check from a conservative activist.

“Yes, I did,” Rep. John Bear, R-Gillette, said in the House lobby.

But Bear said he did not accept the check on the House floor.

Bill to ban use of taxpayer dollars to fund government lobbying fails

POWELL —  A Powell lawmaker’s attempt to prohibit counties, cities, school districts, special districts and the state government from using taxpayer funds on legislative lobbying fell short last week.

Rep. Paul Hoeft, R-Powell, was the lead sponsor of House Bill 88, which sought to bar governmental entities from using state funds to try to influence legislation, hire a lobbyist or pay dues to organizations that lobby the Legislature.
