Why do we officiate sporting events?

Sports officiating goes back as far as when competition in athletics first began. Without officials there would be no true sporting events. As time progressed, athletes became bigger, faster, stronger and smarter, prompting the need for better equipment for safety and protection. The official’s number one priority is the safety of participants.
Most officials begin at the middle school or sub-varsity level, maybe to earn a little extra money or to help out so the teams can play.

Dear Editor,
Prior to this writing, I had 10 cats that I was feeding; things were moving along pretty good for money to feed them, care for them and take care of them which does include some playtime when there is time and visits to the vet when there is money.

Dear Editor,
I read the story of Sam Mihara written by Bob Rodriguez (Lovell Chronicle Sept. 21). Being 9 years old, I’m sure it was tough, taken prisoner by an American armed guard and his father going blind and losing his grandfather with no proper medical care.
The food provided was not good: no fresh vegetables to eat along with fish and rice. The living quarters were military style barracks, no seat for a toilet, just bowls to do your business.

Dear Editor,
Wasn’t it wonderful what Ireeann Andrson and her crew did in painting the caboose? I could see what terrible condition it was in but didn’t do anything about it.
Thanks also to Dan and Meg Anderson for donating the paint.
It looks so much better. I appreciate all their hard work.

Third try was a charm for my vacation to Oregon

Someone told me that I have a tendency to procrastinate. I was going to consider the matter but decided to put it off for a while.
With that in mind, it must be revealed that, although I returned home three weeks ago from my trip to Southwest Oregon, I still haven’t unpacked. Yep, still living out of my suitcase until I get a shot of gumption. Not referring to Forrest Gump. Maybe.
A friend asked if I’d like to borrow his sleep mask for my airplane rides. I told him that I already have a pair; they’re called eyelids.

I receive inspiration from my great-grandma
