Back to the basics of living well
I have in myself a sentiment that I hear expressed by many others that sounds something like “What is this world coming to?” I believe the world is always coming to good, always advancing in line with human potential, but surely there are corrections made when humanity gets off the right path. I believe we are today in a time of such correction.
It is said by those in the wellness community that whole health is a matter of balance in spirit, mind and body, that our spiritual, mental and physical health is interconnected. This philosophy can only be borne by those who acknowledge a creator that is a spirit from whom we get a spiritual component. It would make sense, then, that when theology teaches that we are made in the image of our creator – God, by whatever name you call that spiritual being – it means that we reflect God’s image by the spirit that dwells within us.
We are born with the ability to hear the voice of God through our spirit. It’s called a conscience. It guides our morality, our thoughts and our actions. Through that spirit we have been given the wisdom to make right decisions, that lead to a right life, that leads to the happiness and health that we all seek.
Through our conscience, the laws of God are written on our minds and in our hearts. We don’t need man’s laws, more and more laws, fighting things out in courts, to know how to think and how to act. We already know that all men are created equal. We know that we should do unto others as we would have them do unto us. We know we should value other people’s children the same as our own – with the same education, opportunity, medical care and the like. We know we should not judge other people by the color of their skin, their belief system, their heritage. We know that others have the same right to life as we have.
It starts with me and you. The way each individual thinks determines the kind of world we live in. And I bring this up in a critical time in our history when we are about to elect people to lead us into the future, to make more of those laws that determine the quality of our lives. What path are these people on who propose to be our leaders? Whose voice is their spirit listening to?
I’m not a preacher or a politician, just an American citizen who wants to live my life to the fullest, to the best of my potential. I want the freedom to be guided bv the voice of God, not the voice of man. And I want the same for everyone. Having the sense that these thoughts are not meant for me alone, I leave them here for you to ponder in print.
Now ponder this: “How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.”- Anne Frank; “Life is God’s novel. Let him write it.” - Isaac Bashevis Singer
