B/C Mustangs sweep Powell at home
After more than a week off during Lovell’s Days, the Lovell Mustangs B/C squad took the field in Cowley Tuesday to host the Powell Pioneers C team and won both ends of a doubleheader, 13-0 and 10-8.
The Mustangs out-hit Powell 11-0 in game one, scoring just one run in the first inning, then seven in the second and five in the third while blanking the Pioneers to win by the 10-run rule.
The seven-run second featured an RBI triple by Taysen Yates, and run-scoring singles by Adam Hill, Harper Morgan, Dane Wilson, Camden Blain (two runs) and Xaden Baxendale.
Bradley Mickelson, Wilson and Baxendale had two hits each in the game, with Mickelson and Wilson each hitting a double. Blain and Baxendale each had two RBIs.
Mickelson started on the mound and picked up the win, blanking Powell for 2 2/3 innings while walking three and striking out four. Morgan finished the game, walking one and fanning two in 1 1/3 innings.
Game two
The Lovell bats cranked out five runs in the first inning and three in the second en route to a 10-8 win in the second game. Powell rallied for five runs in the third inning and three in the fourth to tie the game, but the Mustangs scored two in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead, then blanked the Pioneers in the top of the fifth.
Lovell came out hot. Dax Mangus tripled to lead off the game and scored on a passed ball. Wilson tripled home a run in the inning, and Mickelson ripped an RBI double. Morgan added an RBI single.
Wilson doubled to score Morgan in the second inning, and two others scored on ground outs. In the fourth, Mickelson singled, stole second and scored on a single by Yates, who then scored on an error.
Morgan, Wilson and Mickelson had two hits each in the game, and Mickelson scored three runs. Wilson and Yates each drove in two. Mickelson, Wilson and Morgan each hit doubles in the game, and Mangus and Wilson drilled triples.
Madden Cooley, Blain, Brhysan Henton and Wilson shared mound duties, allowing just one hit but walking 13.
Now 9-3, the young Mustangs are scheduled to meet Worland at 4 p.m. today (Thursday) in Worland, then host the Cody Cubs next Wednesday, July 8, for a pair at 3 p.m. They host Buffalo on July 11 at 11 a.m. to wrap up the season.
