Beware of home warranty scam circulating in Big Horn County
Some Big Horn County residents have received letters from Home Warranty Division.
The letter states that the resident must contact their office before the home warranty expires. The letter also names the financial institution/bank/lender who holds a mortgage or loan on the property
It continues: “Failure to call and prevent a potential lapse in coverage could result in you being liable for all costs associated with any home repairs. However, you still may have time left to activate a warranty on your home before it’s too late.”
A name and phone number are given. In small print at the bottom of the letter it states, “We are not affiliated with your current mortgage company.”
The letters are designed to trick homeowners into signing a home warranty contract with unfavorable terms or to get their personal information.
Do not respond to the letter or call any numbers listed on it.
Scam letters often include urgent language such as final notice or coverage will lapse and are on cheap paper.
Your property information could be accurate because it is available through public county deed records.
