BHC 4-H launches Junior Master Gardener program

Big Horn County 4-H has launched a hands-on youth gardening initiative designed to inspire learning, leadership and service through gardening education.

The Junior Master Gardener program is an internationally recognized youth development program that combines academic concepts with practical, hands-on gardening experiences. Its mission is to “grow good kids” by fostering a passion for learning, environmental stewardship and community service. Through activity-based lessons, participants gain gardening knowledge while developing teamwork, leadership and life skills.

The program also emphasizes service learning, encouraging youth to give back to their communities through gardening-related projects. Participants may earn certification and recognition upon completion of program requirements.

The Junior Master Gardener program is open to enrolled Big Horn County 4-H members ages 8–18, as well as Cloverbud members ages 5–7. The cost to participate is the standard $8 Big Horn County 4-H enrollment fee.

“This program offers youth the opportunity to gain hands-on gardening experience, learn how to grow food for their families and contribute to their community in a meaningful way,” said Gretty Gasvoda, the Big Horn County 4-H educator.

Families interested in enrolling should contact Gretty by February 9. Class locations and meeting times will be determined once enrollment is finalized.
