Big Horn Fence Initiative seeks volunteers for Aug. 10 Day of Service
The Big Horn Fence Initiative (BHFI), a coalition of local, private, state and federal agencies and personnel, are seeking volunteers for a day of service on Saturday, Aug. 10, to help remove a half mile of wooden rail fence and posts.
The fence sits on the boundary of the USFS and state land of the Medicine Lodge Habitat Management Area, and its removal and remediation will benefit both wintering wildlife and summer livestock production, the Initiative stated.
Volunteers are asked to meet at the end of Taylor Park Road, roughly a 1.5-hour drive east of Greybull. To get there, volunteers should use Alkali Road or Red Gulch Road, both of which tie into Forest Road 17. From Forest Road 17, volunteers will be able to navigate to FS Road 329 to arrive at Taylor Park near Black Butte. Volunteers are asked to bring gloves, water, clothes that can offer protection from sun and wire fencing and a smile.
The BHFI’s stated goal is to improve wildlife habitat and livestock management by removing, converting and installing livestock friendly fences across the western slope of the Big Horn Mountains.
The Taylor Park Fence Conversion Project will take place on August 10 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, text or call Tanner Warder at 307-272-8552.
