A semi-truck lost control as it traveled down U.S. Highway 14A near mile marker 76 in the Big Horn Mountains on Monday morning at around 8 a.m.

According to Wyoming Highway Patrol Trooper Daniel Hite, the truck crashed through about 100 feet of guardrail as it careened off the road. The accident took place 28.7 miles east of Lovell. The driver, who was from South Carolina, was transported by ambulance to North Big Horn Hospital for treatment of his injuries and was released shortly afterward.

Trooper Hite said he was unable to interview the driver, who was whisked away by ambulance before he arrived at the scene. Hite declined to release the driver’s name.

“What often happens is these truckers use their GPS to find the shortest route,” he explained. “The problem is the GPS doesn’t tell them how difficult this stretch of road is to maneuver. I’m not sure if this is what happened, but that is often the case.”

Hite said no citations have been issued to the driver. He added that the truck, owned by BEK Logistics, LLC, was completely “totaled” in the crash. The truck was carrying rolls of DensDeck fiberglass wallboard covering bound for the Georgia-Pacific plant near Lovell.
