BLM to conduct prescribed burn

CODY, Wyo. — The Bureau of Land Management Cody Field Office plans to conduct a prescribed burn in Cottonwood Canyon, 10 miles east of Lovell, as part of BLM’s commitment to keeping public landscapes healthy and productive.  

Approximately 500 acres of mountain mahogany and conifer encroachment will be targeted to enhance wildlife habitat and ecosystem diversity.

Prescribed burns may be conducted between January 28, 2026, and April 30, 2026, and only when weather and fuel moisture conditions allow for safe, effective operations. Smoke may be visible at times during the burn.
