Chris Somer

Sept. 5, 1948 – March 2, 2026

We mourn the passing of Chris Somer, who passed peacefully in the presence of family on March 2, 2026. 

Chris was born September 5, 1948. She was the very definition of Wyoming cowgirl tough, overcoming many health battles, including kidney failure, multiple bouts of cancer, scoliosis, a club foot and other persistent health challenges throughout her lifetime. It never stopped her. She had a deep faith and unwavering strength. She loved Wyoming and never wanted to live anywhere else.

She met the love of her life, Frank, in college at the University of Wyoming, and they married in 1970. Together, they raised their twins, Jodi and Frank Jerry in the dome house outside of Lovell. They built on the dome as they could afford and constantly changed the construction of it. It remains unique and unfinished — just like their love. 

Chris also loved being in the Beartooths with Frank, as well as canoeing and fishing with extended family and friends, the Slaughterbecks and Berreys, in the back country of Yellowstone every chance they could.

Chris was a creative person and always loved a challenge. She leaves a legacy of beautiful quilts, needlepoint and other crafts. She was the force behind her family, raising animals, gardening and canning and, as anyone who knew her could say, Chris never turned down reading a good book.

Chris was preceded in death by her parents, Chuck and Shirley, as well as her beloved Frank. 

Her surviving family will carry her memory in their hearts: son Frank Jerry, daughter Jodi (Jay), grandchildren Jake and Jae, brothers Dick and Bill, brother-in-law Don and multiple nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family, all of whom Chris loved very much.

We are sure to miss naming everyone, but the family would like to extend their gratitude to the following for the friendship and support given to Chris throughout the years: Donna Mills, her best friend since sixth grade, Sheryl Briseño, Eva Wagner, Judy Ferren, Keith and Donna Kohnke, friends and support system at the Lovell Senior Center, North Big Horn Hospital visiting nurses, all those who supported her care at NBHH and the Lovell community.
