Commission gets update on airplane auction
At their November 4 meeting, the Big Horn County Commission heard updates from the Airports and Land Planning departments.
Paul Thur highlighted in the airport’s written report to the commission on the status of the planes that were bought during the boneyard auction. Two planes have been completely removed, one is 90% removed, a few are slowly being disassembled and removed, three have requested leases and the county is waiting for an update from one owner. He then presented lease requests from the three parties. The commissioners reviewed and approved the leases.
Thur also noted that the airport board was meeting that evening. He would present the 2026 meeting schedule to that board. He noted that he proposed that the meetings all be set at 7 p.m.
He said he would also be discussing with the board the requests to buy bits/parts off the five planes that did not sell. The commission said their preference would be to keep the planes whole. The county could hold another auction.
A calibration of the fuel pumps at both airports is scheduled for later this week. Airport and hanger clean-up will begin soon.
In land planning news, Thur said staffers Stephanie May and Angela Aschenbrenner have been brainstorming with the clerk’s office to create a document with helpful hints for the subdivision process. The hope is that it will cut down on the issues including septic permits and utility easements.
