Court upholds laws banning crossover voting

CHEYENNE (WNE) — On Friday, Laramie County District Court Judge Nathaniel Hibben granted summary judgment in favor of Wyoming Secretary of State Chuck Gray, upholding Wyoming’s ban on crossover voting and Wyoming’s “sore loser” law, which bans unsuccessful primary candidates from running as independents.

“Today’s ruling granting our motion for summary judgment is a huge win for the integrity of Wyoming’s elections,” Gray said in a news release. “Protecting the election process by banning crossover voting has been a key part of our administration’s election integrity agenda.

“With this ruling, it is confirmed what we, the citizens of Wyoming, knew all along: these laws are constitutional and pivotal to ensuring election integrity in Wyoming.”
