Cowley News: Welcome to the Piercy and Jensen families
Spring has sprung in Cowley, I think, at least I hope. The last couple days have been beautiful and sunny, amazing and wonderful after our cold as ice days in February. Green grass is peeking through, as well as tulip leaves.
I’ve had a chance to get out and meet a few people that have moved into our town. Ronda and Matt Piercy moved here in October of 2023 from Mountain View, Wyoming. They were both raised in Lyman, Wyoming, two streets apart. He did a split option in the Army National Guard doing basic training after his junior year of high school. When he returned, he spent some time with Ronda.
He had seen her previously and thought he would never be able to date someone that hot, but after staying up talking with her until 2 a.m., he had a pretty strong feeling she was the one. She must have felt the same. They married 28 years ago, raising three children, Destiny, Kelsey and Brenden in Mountain View. They are now also grandparents to three adorable kids.
After their children were raised and on their own, they had a prompting to change things up, and Matt applied for a new job at Contango north of the airport near Powell. The day after he applied, he got the job doing chromatography and gas measurement. Ronda is a respiratory therapist. She worked for eight months in Cody until she got the job at the North Big Horn Hospital in Lovell.
They love living in Cowley; they have great neighbors and a wonderful church they attend in Powell, Trinity Bible. They do miss their children and grandchildren a lot, but they have filled up that loneliness with four dogs, Nikia, Tiegan, Deja and Athena, which are all inherited, and 12 chickens. They have lots of plans for their home, yard and garden. They enjoy going fishing but have some problems catching them. It was so fun to meet these wonderful people, a definite enrichment to our town.
I also had a chance to visit with Holly Jensen, married to Chris Jensen, who moved here last summer from the Tri-Cities area in Washington. Holly was the oldest of 12 kids in her family. She was all set to attend nursing school in Washington when she met Chris and changed plans, moving to Laramie, where he was pursuing a career in education and later, administration. They started a family of seven children, five girls and two boys, raising them in Washington and Wyoming. Four of the seven are raised, with only three left at home, Emily, 17, Rick, 15, and Drew, 13. They are also grandparents to three beautiful grandkids.
It was very interesting to learn more about Holly. She loves the medical field and leans more toward holistic medicine. She is certified in the state of Washington as an interpersonal hypnotherapist with a focus on addiction. She loves learning and recently traveled to Mexico for further education. As a family they love to hike, fish and hunt.
Chris is the principal at the Lovell Elementary School.
It is fun to get to know people and learn new things and how interesting and unique we all are. Cowley is a melting pot of sorts. At one point I’m sure everyone knew each other and half were all related. Now, people have moved in from other areas, making it more intriguing. The weather is also interesting, keeping us guessing. A little bit of snow in the spring makes it greener, right?
