Dickerson leads Lovell wrestlers at Cody opener

Lovell Middle School brings home 15 placings from season’s first tournament

Sixth-grader Cayden Dickerson won the 70-pound A Division championship to lead Lovell Middle School at its first wrestling meet of the season Saturday in Cody.

Dickerson went 3-0 with three falls on the way to the title as Lovell brought 29 wrestlers to the tournament and earned 15 placings.

“I thought for our first showing this middle school season we wrestled tough,” head coach Quinton Hecker said. “Sixth grader Cayden Dickerson performed excellent along with everyone else.”

In A Division, Hudson Morgan went 2-2 and placed fourth at 70 pounds. Cinch Bischoff and Thayne Walker each went 0-2 at 77, while Kannon Bassett was 0-2 at 84. Carson Marberry finished 0-2 at 105.

At 110, Hayden Harshman went 2-1 to place third, while Jace Jameson was 1-2 and fourth. Braxton Layne went 0-2 at 126, Corbin Henley and Linus Killinger were each 0-2 at 138 and Isaiah Leal was 0-2 at 145.

Lovell’s B Division wrestlers included Manuel Garcia and Sean Leece, both 0-2 at 84 pounds. At 91, Carson Grant went 1-1 for second place, and Miles Baxendale was 0-2 and fourth. Devin Stoker finished 1-2 at 98, Abiel Torres was 2-2 and fourth at 105 and Joel Henley went 1-1 for third at 115.

In the girls division, Angelina Lauhoff went 2-2 and placed fourth at 84 pounds, while Temperance Hubbs was 2-1 for second at 98. Evalina Garcia finished 2-2 and fourth at 105, and Leila Brown also went 2-2 at 110.

At 126, Hadley Henton placed second with a 2-1 record. Brielle Hubbs went 0-2, while Scarlette Hubbs finished 2-1 and fourth. Olivia Phillips was 0-1 at 145, Emaline Smith was 1-2 and fourth at 145 and Remmey Cliame went 1-1 for third at 165.

Hecker said the team demonstrated plenty of competitiveness but identified conditioning as an early-season priority.

“All of my wrestlers showed they had some spitfire and could get after it,” Hecker said. “But in the third period we looked a little tired, so we are working on our gas tank with some hard conditioning and drilling.”

Hecker said the team will continue reviewing fundamental techniques in practice. Skye Mickelson is assisting the Lovell program this season.

The Bulldogs will wrestle in Powell Saturday starting at 10 a.m.
