Driver inattention, seatbelt use factors in Tuesday morning fatality

Cheyenne -- The Wyoming Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that killed a young woman from Powell with roots in Lovell Tuesday morning.

According to a WHP press release, a trooper was dispatched to a single-vehicle rollover roughly four miles west of Lovell just past the Oasis Junction at U.S. 14A mile marker 42.6 Tuesday at 6:54 a.m.

According to Trooper Brent Tillery, who investigated the crash, evidence on scene showed that the 2008 Chevrolet Impala was traveling east on U.S. 14A when the vehicle drifted off the roadway to the south.  The driver overcorrected to the left and departed the asphalt to the north in a counterclockwise rotation.

The vehicle began a passenger side slide up an embankment, where the vehicle tripped and began to roll.  The vehicle then impacted the right-of-way fence and a metal utility pole on the passenger side.

According to the WHP release, the driver, identified as Kameryn Allphin, 19, a resident of Powell and a 2025 graduate of Lovell High School, was completely ejected from the Impala and died at the scene. The investigation found that Kameryn had not been wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash. Driver inattention is believed to be the primary cause in this crash.

Trooper Tillery noted that the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Department, North Big Horn Hospital EMS and the Lovell Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to the scene.

“The WHP wishes to thank the reporting party and all that helped at the crash scene and consoled the family,” Tillery said. “Our heart goes out to the family for their loss.”

The crash brings the total deaths on Wyoming roadways to 20 in 2026, compared to 13 in 2025 and 10 in 2024 at the same point in time.
