Eugene Hauck

Feb. 19, 1936 – April 4, 2026

Eugene Hauck passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 4, 2026, after a lifetime of dedication to family. He recently celebrated his 90th birthday, a milestone shared with family and friends.

He was born in Heil, North Dakota, on February 19, 1936. His strong desire to overcome economic hardship and love of learning carried him through an impressive academic journey, earning his bachelor’s degree from Montana State, master’s degree from the University of Utah and Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Northern Colorado.

Gene met Ruth Mortensen in Lovell. They were married in 1962. From there, he went on to teach at Natrona County High School and Kelly Walsh High School. In 1983, Gene and Ruth moved to Riverton, where he joined Central Wyoming College as a professor in the nursing program, teaching microbiology and chemistry until he retired.

Gene also founded Hauck Analytical Services, a business still operating today. His work with the oil companies took him to Kazakhstan and Angola after his retirement from CWC. He continued working as long as his health allowed.

Gene has also dedicated years of service as an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he made many good friends. His children and grandchildren have served missions throughout the world, which Gene was very proud of.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Leah (Grant) Scholes in 2001.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruth; children Lori (Phil) Christopherson, Lisa (Clynn) Wilkinson and Daniel (Jessie) Hauck; 16 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 10, at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center, 430 Elizabeth Drive, Riverton. Viewing will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Graveside services will be held Saturday, April 11, at 10:30 a.m. at the Lovell Cemetery.
