Fair entry deadlines are nearing

Gather up your bean art, start looking through your camera roll or get your garden shears ready. It’s time to showcase your talents, possibly win prize money and contribute to community traditions. 

The entry deadline for exhibitors is Monday, July 6, for the Big Horn County Fair. Entries themselves are not due this day, just exhibitor’s intentions of what they plan to enter. 

Exhibitors must use the online platform this year; the fair is no longer accepting paper entries. 

“Anyone needing help entering can come to the fair office, and we would be happy to help. Call 307-250-3427 to set up an appointment,” said fair manager Dusty Miller. 

Organizers note that all divisions are listed in the fair book, but if some are missing from the online platform, please call the fair office. 

The late period extends July 7 through July 17. According to the fair book, “Late entries may be accepted only if late fees are paid of $20 per exhibitor. No entries will be accepted after the final published deadline.”

Pig wrestling entries open on July 6 and will remain open until divisions are full and are due no later than July 27. Rodeo entries are open on July 20. Entry forms for the parade must be received by Monday, July 27, at 5 p.m.

Intake periods have been designated for each class and can be found in the fair book. For example, open class static entries are due on the grounds by 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, and all livestock must be in place by 5 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29.

Hard copies of the fair book can be found locally at the Cowley Mercantile, Lovell’s Bazooka Lumber, Lovell’s Minchow’s Service Station, Basin’s MTR Ranch Supply, the 4-H extension office in Basin and at the Fair Office in Basin. 

SCHEDULE OVERVIEW

While some events begin sooner, the main fair events are scheduled for July 27 through August 2. This year’s fair theme is “Where 250 years of stories come together.” Entertainment highlights include: 

Monday, July 27 – Cowboy Polo at 6 p.m.

Tuesday, July 28 – Goat roping at 6 p.m.

Wednesday, July 29 – Opening ceremony at 5 p.m.

Thursday, July 30 – Pig wrestling at 7 p.m.

Friday, July 31 – Big Horn Circuit Rodeo at 6 p.m. followed by the dance to live music at 9 p.m.

Saturday, Aug. 1 – Free community breakfast scheduled from 7 to 10 a.m. The parade is set for 10 a.m., the Demo Derby at 6 p.m. and a glow stick dance at 9 p.m.

Sunday, Aug. 2 – Community worship service at 10 a.m., and new this year is the Tuff Truck competition at 2 p.m.
