Lafe Files began his mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Monday with one week of home-based MTC training. He will report to the Provo Missionary Training Center next week before serving in the Nashville, Tennessee Mission.

With many friends in attendance, Lafe joked in his farewell talk in the Cowley 2nd Ward, “Nashville is a place I’ve always wanted to go. I just never really thought I’d be on a mission.”

He explained that his choice had always come down to playing baseball or serving a mission. In the end, he chose to serve, noting that baseball would still be waiting when he returned. He credited his older brother Cody, as well as Blake Wilson and Blake’s father Nick, as key influences in his decision.

Lafe added, “I’m so excited to start this next chapter in my life and couldn’t be more thankful for everything that led me to this decision. I’m also grateful for all the love and kindness our community has, and I hope to take a piece of that with me to Tennessee.”
