Fourteen meet Great American Challenge

Fourteen fifth graders at Rocky Mountain Elementary School in Cowley recently completed the difficult task of meeting all six challenges of the Great American Challenge, a citizenship contest sponsored by teachers Pat Winland and Lacey Bassett.

Students had to perform each of six challenges to receive the award:

1. Label the 50 states, the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, the Gulf of Mexico and the countries of Canada and Mexico on a blank map.

2. Recite from memory the Gettysburg Address.

3. Write and spell perfectly the Pledge of Allegiance.

4. Recite in order the presidents of the United States.

5. Sing or recite from memory the “Star Spangled Banner.”

6. Recite from memory the preamble of the United States Constitution.

Students completing the challenge were Austin Grandalen, Karli Larsen, Elly Samson, Miranda Bassett, Jill Crosby, Ember Jones, Emsley Whiting, Ava Sponsel, Allyson Crosby, Luke Crosby, Nathan Sponsel, Hayden Brost, Sammy Boardman and Audree Jolley.
