Greybull Museum to host Matthews next week

The Greybull Museum will host former Bighorn National Forest archaeologist Bill Matthews for a talk on the archaeology of Cloud Peak Wilderness next Thursday, June 25. 

Matthews, a Lovell resident and Montana State University graduate, has worked on Native American sites from California’s High Sierra all the way to the Big Horns. Beyond the Bighorn National Forest, he has also worked at Mesa Verde National Park and Sequoia National Forest. His archaeological team conducted cultural resource surveys of the Cloud Peak Wilderness area, focusing on its high altitude passes and lakes. Prehistoric sites have been found in the area dating back to 8,500 years ago. Next week’s talk will focus on the Cliff Lake Loop, roughly 10,000 feet in elevation. 

The event is free and open to the public, taking place Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Greybull Museum, 325 Greybull Avenue.
