It looks like the Rocky Mountain Grizzlies are peaking at the right time as they head into the conference meet today (Thursday) in Ethete.

Five members of the team set personal records at the Powell Invitational, held at the Powell golf course, Friday afternoon as the team gets in top shape for the post-season meets.

The top time Friday came from junior Cole Minchow, who placed 23rd in the junior varsity race in a time of 20:46, eight seconds faster than his previous best time at Cody two weeks earlier.

Also running strong was freshman Dalan Wambeke, who ran the course in 21:48, just six seconds off his PR, to finish 36th in the JV race. Hot on his heels was senior Noah Bisby, who finished 37th in 21:51, besting his PR by a full minute and a half.

Junior Alex Hedges ran 23:05, and senior Noah Johnson ran 24:09, a PR by 38 seconds.

In the girls race, with JV and competitors running together, senior Gwynff Bodtke ran the best time of her career and placed 21st in the JV division with a time of 26:54, 29 seconds faster than her previous season best and 27 seconds faster than her time on the same course a year ago.

Fellow senior Ashley Pizana cut her time for the third consecutive race and set a PR with a time of 32:00, 25th in the JV division.

Coach Tim Jones did not provide comments about Friday’s meet by press time.

The Grizzlies are off to Ethete Friday for the 2A West/Five Rivers Conference meet at Wyoming Indian High School, hosted by Fort Washakie High School. Running begins at noon.

The Wyoming State Cross Country Meet will be held Saturday,
Oct. 21, at the Cheyenne Country Club.
