Holidazzle lights up downtown

by nathan osterFrom start to finish, it was a Holidazzle celebration to remember, with warmer-than-expected temperatures, a parade featuring a record 17 floats, and music and laughter filling the air in downtown Greybull on Friday afternoon.The town, which organized the parade, announced the results of the judging on Monday.In the small business category, first place went to Sugar Shack, followed by the Branding Iron. Sanders Homes earned honorable mention honors.Big Horn Co-op’s float took top honors in the large business category, followed by the Town of Greybull’s entry. Honorable mention went to the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office.The float entered by the Greybull Hispanic community was the winner of the open class category. The train featuring Steva Dooley and Bob Willson placed second. There was a tie for honorable mention between the Boy/Cub Scouts of Pack 312 and the Girl Scouts of Packs 1447 and 1330. The Girl Scouts float also won the mayor’s choice award.Using money from donations, the town awarded $100 to each of the first-place winners, $50 to each of the second-place winners, $25 to the honorable mention selections and $100 to the mayor’s choice recipient.“We’re so grateful for all of the people who were behind the scenes who made this successful,” said Beverly Jacobs, a member of the Holidazzle committee. Chief among them were Heather Howe, director of the Greybull Recreation District, and Selena Brown, executive director of the Greybull Area Chamber of Commerce.“All the volunteers play a role,” she said. “There was a good attitude of participation from all of the people downtown. Overall I’d say it was terrific.” ChamberAt 6:15 p.m., the Holidazzle focus shifted to the office of the Greybull Area Chamber of Commerce.Before the prize drawings, the chamber honored John Fuller, John Olin and Clark Andres, all three of whom volunteered their time to staff the Museum of Flight and Aerial Firefighting this past summer. More than 5,800 people visited the museum.As for the drawings themselves, the firepit went to Heather Stulc, the triple slow cooker to Doug Scott and the $50 gift certificate to Mylo’s to Jeannie VanGelder.Said Brown of the event: “We had a lot of floats and there were a lot of people on the streets, enjoying it all. It was a great turnout. We are going to be visiting and revisiting this to see where we can make improvements.”
