Hyart, FFA students collaborate on welding project
The Hyart Theatre and Lovell High School FFA program joined forces for a special project as part of the ongoing redevelopment project at the historic theater last week.
Hyart board president Mike Steenbakkers reached out to the LHS vocational education program to see about some modifications to the metal railings at the theater that lead to the lower lobby space next to the restrooms and to the balcony in the main theater.
“We reached out to the high school to see if they’d be interested in adding some rungs (to the railings), and the FFA stepped up,” Steenbakkers said.
All the FFA program asked was for the Hyart to supply the materials and students would perform the welding work. Students removed the railings, welded the rungs in place and took the railings back to the theater Friday morning. Steenbakkers said Miller’s Fabrication was coming this week to weld the railings back into place since the high school doesn’t have a portable welder.
“We appreciate the students at the high school assisting us and Miller’s Fabrication continuing to support the community,” Steenbakkers said.
