The Big Horn County School District #2 board has named Christopher Jensen as the new principal of Lovell Elementary School beginning the 2024-25 school year.
There were three candidates that were chosen for the interview process.
Those three individuals were: Christopher Jensen (Yakima, Washington), Jeremy Laing (Cody, Wyoming) and Lydia McCracken (Cowley, Wyoming).
Superintendent Doug Hazen was pleased with the hiring process and feels like they were extensive and thorough with the selection.
"We thought all three applicants did a nice job but we felt that Mr. Jensen would be the right choice for our Lovell Elementary and BGH2 in general," Hazen said.
Jensen currently serves as an elementary school principal at Yakima County School District #7 in Yakima, Washington.
Although he has taught at many different grade levels, he has 13 years serving in administration.
At the community forum last week, Jensen mentioned how much he loved this area and how it feels like home to him and what he wants for his family.
"You get into this thing because you love kids," Jensen said. "That has never changed for me. If you have never been an elementary school principal, it's like being a superhero and I love it."
"We are excited and so is he," added Hazen. "We look forward to his great leadership in our district."
Jensen also stated at the forum, "If I'm hired, three years from now, I would like to be the principal at Lovell Elementary. Five years from now, I would like to be the principal at Lovell Elementary and in 13 years from now, I would like to be here and retire in the place that I love."
