Just one B among three Lovell High School students marks the careers of the top honor students at LHS.

Jasmine Keele is this year’s valedictorian, and Haley Sanders is the salutatorian. Lynn Marchant is this year’s honor student, voted by her fellow seniors.

Keele has finished her high school career with a 4.0 grade point average and earned a 35 score on the ACT.

She has been active in Wyoming Academic Challenge (sophomore year) and speech and debate as a senior. She also entered the Big Horn Basin math competition as a sophomore and junior and placed second as a sophomore.

Her favorite course was Chemistry II, taught by Josey Allen, one of two teachers she has found to be inspirational. The other is Katie Hernandez.

Keele will attend Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and major in chemistry. Asked what she will doing in 10 years, she replied, “That’s pretty much impossible to say.”

Sanders

Haley Sanders, the daughter of Peter and Sondra Sanders, carries a 3.98 GPA, having received an 89 one semester in biology. She scored a 31 on the ACT.

Sanders has had an extremely active high school career including four years in student council including student body vice president her senior year and three years in National Honor Society, serving as president this year. She has also participated in FCCLA four years, cheerleading three years, track and field three years and all music classes for four years: music performance, singing alto in choir and section leader as a percussionist in band.

She will attend Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, and major in communication disorders, then continue on for a master’s degree in speech pathology. Her inspirational teacher has been Dane Robertson, who piqued her interest in the field of medicine in his biology, anatomy and environmental science classes.

Sanders credited her parents for being there for her throughout her life and supporting her interest in attending BYU. In 10 years she hopes to be working following her master’s degree and starting a family, she hopes in Lovell.

Marchant

The daughter of Jennifer Marchant, Annalyn “Lynn” Marchant carries a 4.0 GPA and scored a 29 on her ACT. She has participated on the cheer team three years and is a member of the yearbook staff as a senior. Like Sanders, she has taken music performance, choir (soprano and alto) and band (percussion) for four years.

Her inspirational teacher has also been Robertson, having taken biology I and II and anatomy from the science teacher. She plans to attend the University of Wyoming and major in microbiology, giving Robertson credit for being very helpful in the process of choosing a school.

Marchant hopes to become a medical examiner and/or a coroner, and she said Robertson set up a job shadow for her to attend an autopsy. She said she may still be in school in 10 years as she works toward a PhD and hopes to be working in her chosen field after college.

All three honor students are to address their classmates during commencement on Monday evening.
