Lady Bulldogs remain relentless, sweep three matches

The Lovell Lady Bulldogs plunged into the heart of their schedule this week with three matches in five days.

On Friday, the Lovell netters traveled to Thermopolis to take on the Lady Bobcats. The Lovell offense took center stage, resulting in wins in three straight sets, 25-17, 25-12, 25-13.

The Lady Bulldogs swept Columbus Saturday afternoon after a quick turnaround from Thermopolis. The relentlessness of the squad was apparent at the first home match. Talking to each other, encouraging each other and playing as a cohesive team proved to be a winning combination for the state champs. 

The first set ended with a score in favor of the Lady Bulldogs 25-20. 

In the next set, Columbus was dominated by Lovell’s defense, losing to the Lady Bulldogs 25-10. 

The final set on Saturday resulted in another win for Lovell, although Columbus found some of their offense again. Ava Edwards had a game winning kill against Columbus as Lovell won 25-19, leading to the sweep for the home team.

The state championship banner was revealed last night.

“It was a special night honoring such a wonderful group of young women and all those that contributed,” Coach Tera Kostelecky said.

 The Lovell squad appears to be ready to challenge for the state championship early in the season as they dominated the Cody Fillies, who were the runners up in last season, in a home match, 25-9, 25-15, 25-15, the third consecutive sweep in week three of volleyball.

Kostelecky summed the week up saying, “Seeing what we practice translate into the games has been so great for them to see that hard work pays off. We have a long way to climb still and will keep pushing.”

This week the Lady Bulldogs will travel to Rawlins to participate in the Rawlins Invitational Friday and Saturday. They will return home to play a non-conference match against Greybull on Monday at 6:15 p.m. On Tuesday Lovell will play their first conference match against Lander at home starting with the freshman match at 4 p.m.
