Lady Grizzlies look forward after tough tourney

Rocky Mountain High School girls volleyball traveled over the mountain this past weekend to play at the Big Horn Invitational in Big Horn.

It was a tough weekend for the Lady Grizz, who lost all but one match during last weekend’s tournament. Sundance barely came away with a win Friday in each set, 25-22, 26-25, 15-12. 

“We had a lot of great moments but were unable to put a string of those great moments together in sets,” coach Kay Townsend said.

Southeast’s offense came out strong against Rocky Mountain, winning the first set 25-11. The Lady Grizz then went on to shift their strategy and narrowly lost the second set 26-25. The final set finished the sweep for Southeast 15-9.

Next up for the Lady Grizz was Kemmerer, and following that was Wright. Both matches went the opposing team’s way.

A win against Lusk was ever important to the spirits of the team. Sweeping the match 25-19 and 25-21 showed the crowd the determination to turn this weekend around for the Lady Grizz. 

While ultimately losing to Big Horn, who is number 1 in Class 2A, the Lady Grizz were able to score 20 points in one set, something no other team at the invite was able to do.

Some of the teams Rocky faced this past weekend will also play in the upcoming Greybull tournament, giving the Lady Griz another chance while working on serve/receives, closing blocks and getting the ball to the setter consistently during practice this week. Rocky Mountain will take part in the Greybull Invitational beginning Friday.
