Lady Grizzlies sweep Meeteetse on the road
The Rocky Mountain Middle School girls basketball team took to the road Tuesday for the only set of games in the past week, traveling to Meeteetse Tuesday afternoon.
Rocky edged the Longhorns 23-17 in the A game and 18-17 in the B game.
“The A game was a scrappy game from start to finish,” head coach Taylor Winland said. “We had some trouble at first stopping Meeteetse from driving in and getting second-chance points. We were able to switch up our defense and put a stop to the driving lanes and easy buckets for the most part.
“I was very pleased with the girls’ resilience when shots weren’t falling for us. We kept our heads up and looked for the next opportunity to score. We have the rest of the week to clean up some stuff and prepare for a busy week next week. I’m proud of the girls for their continuous effort and for being very coachable. Sawyer Bassett did an excellent job getting our offense lined up and scoring buckets when we needed it most. Taylor Grandalen and Elle Ganoung also had some key rebounds and points.”
Bassett scored 13 points to lead the Rocky Mountain scoring, and Grandalen added 7, Ganoung 3.
The B game was a nail-biter. Meeteetse led 5-2 after the first quarter, but the Lady Grizz outscored the home team 8-0 in the second to lead 10-5 at halftime. Rocky led 12-9 after three and held Meeteetse off in the fourth quarter to win.
“The B team was able to scrap together a win,” Winland said. “The girls were more patient on their offense and got great looks because of it. This game came down to execution, and the girls did just that to secure a one-point victory.”
Tianna Christiansen scored 6 points for the Lady Grizz, Kielley Brimhall and Kate Crosby 4 each, Lauren Hedges and Kinli Bitton 2 apiece.
The Lady Grizzlies are off this weekend but will host Greybull Tuesday at 4:15 p.m.
