Legion C Mustangs sweep Thermopolis
The Lovell Mustangs Legion C team got back on track this week by sweeping the Thermopolis Bobcats in a doubleheader on Monday evening in Cowley.
In game one, the Mustangs cruised to a 15-5 mercy-rule victory after five innings of play.
Dane Wilson led the Mustangs by going 2-for-2 at the plate, while Dax Mangus, Aaidan Walker, Ryan Grant, Mac Morgan, Taysen Yates, Lukas Miller and Kannon Owens all had one hit apiece for a total of nine Mustang hits in the game.
Grant, Morgan and Madden Cooley shared pitching responsibilities in the game, and the trio combined for 11 strikeouts and 10 walks, allowing five runs (two earned) on only two Bobcat hits.
The hot bats carried over into the second game for the Mustangs as they scored in every inning to power to another win via the 10-run rule, 12-2.
Miller and Walker had two hits each to lead Lovell’s offense. Grant, Zander Stahl and Easton Morgan added one hit apiece.
Bradly Mickelson started on the mound for the Mustangs and pitched the first three innings. Wilson and Walker came in to pitch one inning each in relief.
The three Lovell pitchers tallied seven strikeouts and four walks, giving up two runs (one earned) on only three hits.
The C team then traveled to Riverton on Wednesday for a doubleheader against the Raiders. Scores were unavailable by press time.
Up next, the squad will compete in the C state tournament in Evanston on July 17-20 to round out the season.
