Jan. 2, 1935 – Jan. 17, 2018Leonard Gene Kuntz, 83, passed onto a better place on January 17, 2018 at his home in Shell, Wyo.Gene, “Grandpa Gene #2”, was born Jan. 2, 1935, in Chapman, Mont. Gottfred Kuntz and Lydia Schmidt were his parents. He was the youngest of 14 brothers and sisters.Gene joined the U.S. Navy in 1953 and retired 20 years later from the service.YNC Leonard Gene Kuntz served his country proudly during the Korean and Vietnam War. Some of that time served was aboard the USS Constellation.After retiring in Washington from the service, Gene moved to Wyoming to be closer to his family.In 1974, Gene met the love of his life, Minnie VanScotter. They treasured many wonderful years, camping, gardening, bowling, traveling and entertaining friends. One of the most treasured memories would be those spent dancing the night away every Saturday night at the American Legion or the VFW.He was blessed with a stepson, David Moss and wife Charlotte, of Greybull; daughter, Lea Ann (Kuntz) and husband Ralph Pate of Cody.Grandpa Gene was a wonderful Grandfather. Those Christmas cookies will never be forgotten by Grandson Caden Moss, Grandson Daniel (Jennifer) Moss and their children, Devyn and Bettie; granddaughter, Jessica (Todd) Alderman and their children Ruger and Kimber. Grandsons, Carl and Grant Pate.Gene was preceded in death by his parents; all his siblings except one sister, Ester of Colorado; a very special stepson, Darrin Moss, as well as his significant other, “Minnie”And now Dad your journey here on earth has been completed.As per his wishes, cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held in the spring of 2018.
