Letter to the Editor: Al Simpson was a great senator
Dear Editor,
March 14, 2025, was a sad day for me as Senator Alan Simpson died. If not Wyoming’s greatest senator definitely number 2 or 3. Senator Simpson accomplished much good legislation when both sides of the aisle could work together.
Senator Simpson once said every time you make a vote you create enemies. Once I believe on Speak-Your-Peace the senator spent so much time answering a lady’s question he forgot the question.
I only met Senator Simpson once in Shoshoni after a morning antelope hunt. I saw the no longer senator at the gas station. I went up and said hello. The senator went to shake my hand as I said, “You may not want to shake hands,” as my hand was covered in dried antelope blood. It didn’t bother the senator in the least as he shook my hand. The senator then proceeded to tell me about some of his one-shot antelope hunts and other interesting stories. It was as if I knew this man my whole life, even though I just met him.
I’ve never met anyone like that before or since. Had the senator been running for office that day he had my vote secured.
