Letter to the Editor: Important information, not scare tactics

Dear Editor,

A letter that ran in last week’s paper says I used scare tactics. The writer didn’t use my name, because he researched a different poison. I received my copy from the City, and it says it is Permanone, not PermaSease 4-4. I’m not sure I would agree to use PermaSease 4-4 as the writer wrote that it may have killed 4,000 people. His words. And he says I used scare tactics?

I have the complete report on what the City uses, and you can stop by and read it. I handed out copies of the City report, and all he had to do was ask for a copy, but no, he had to do his research, which is not what the City uses. So much for having a License for Commercial Application. So big on writing about something the City doesn’t use but doesn’t mean diddly to those of us with gardens and plants that are being killed. All you have to do is go down to the Garden Center and look and see all the dying plants that were “recently sprayed.” 

Just as cigarette smokers get a warning on their label - “May Cause Lung Cancer” - Bayer protects itself from lawsuits with similar warnings while at the same time reporting all the bad things their products do.

What I wrote was in concern for the person spraying the product and for those of us whose plants are being killed. Permanone does not kill mosquitos or yellow jackets, because if it did, I wouldn’t get eaten up by mosquitos every time I work in my garden. I planted a new peach tree which was putting out new leaves. That night, the mosquito truck sprayed, and the next day my peach tree was dead. The report from the City says it kills bees and if put on water, very dangerous - water - just like the water park? It is not scare tactics but a concern for the citizens of Lovell. 

The report from the City says symptoms from spraying include increased urination, decreased activities, nasal discharge, bulging eyes, etc. It says to change clothes and wear gloves and eye protection. I don’ think the driver does any of these things. Read the report and it says Toxic! It says women may get throat and liver cancer. I wrote this stuff because it comes right off the Bayer’s report that the City made a copy for me. 

I was hoping for a moratorium on this spraying, but I guess the City doesn’t care about its employees or citizens. Walk around town and talk to the people, and they’ll tell you what I have said is true, not some scare tactic as his report states. 

And no, this isn’t from the heat as you can check my water bill and see that at midnight or so, I am out watering.
