LHS golfers enjoy balmy weather in Lander
Last Friday, the Lovell High School golf team traveled to Lander to compete in the Lander Invite as the Bulldogs continued their spring season. With calm weather and little wind, Lovell golfers were able to see improvement on the difficult Lander course.
The Bulldogs were thankful for the calm conditions after weeks of difficult spring weather.
“We were treated handsomely by the Fremont County weather,” head coach Dane Robertson said. “I was worried that the wind would kick up and make an already difficult course even tougher, but it stayed away.”
For the girls, Kenley Wilson led Lovell with a score of 93, finishing seventh overall. Robertson said Wilson showed major improvement after dropping 11 strokes from her score in Cody the week before, noting, “She worked exceptionally hard this week to get the sequence and timing of her swing back to a place where she can feel confident again.”
Shooting a 93 in Lander was a strong step forward for Wilson as she continues preparing for the fall season, the coach said.
MaKinli Mowery followed with a 106 to place 15th overall. Mowery came off a career-best round the previous week in Cody, and Robertson said Lander’s difficult course made her score more impressive than it may seem.
“That 106 in Lander compares nicely to a 100 in Cody,” Robertson said.
On the boys side, Jaxon Hayes and Weston Hendershot both shot a 104 to lead Lovell. Aren Olsen followed with a 109, Hayden Workman shot a 129 and Jasper Lopez finished with a 142. Robertson said the boys posted scores similar to the previous week overall, but he was happy with Olsen’s improvement.
“Aren shot much better this week,” Robertson stated. “He was a little happier after his round than I saw in Cody.”
Lovell will next travel to Sheridan on Friday for the Sheridan Invite as the Bulldogs finish out their spring season.
