LHS students receive choir and band awards
The Lovell High School fine and performing arts programs held an awards banquet on Tuesday, May 14, in the LHS multi-purpose room.
Along with the state art awards and displays, the choir and band members were recognized for their achievements.
In addition to performances by the choirs, solos and small ensembles for their scores at Music Performance Assessments, LHS choir director Carisa French presented program awards for choir.
Katie Jo Jones was given the National School Choral Award.
Musicianship certificates were presented to Cutler Wilkerson, Kellie Peterson, Grady Henley, Lynn Marchant, Atlee Sanders and Haley Sanders.
The Director’s Choice awards were given to Matty Leithead for concert choir and Davin Crosby for show choir.
Wilson Hendershot, Ella Spanier, Whitney Hendershot and Ireeann Anderson were selected as “Top Dawgs,” while Rookie of the Year went to Porter Blau.
Ada Buchholz received “Spirit of a Bulldog” honors, and Sadie Wassmer got the “High Note” award.
The following individuals lettered in choir: Grady Henley, Kandace Asay, Jay Mayes, Breege Wagner, Atlee Sanders, Ada Buchholz, Parker Steenbakkers, Porter Blau, James Blau and Damian Wagner.
Jarrett Allen, Damian Wagner and Jay Mayes were also recognized as all-state choir members.
BAND
Band director Keath Fenton also presented program awards for the year for those participating in band.
The John Philip Sousa Award, which is a national award, was given to Hallie Cornia.
Merit certificates were also handed to Stetson Asay, Taggart Shumway, Sadie Ennis, Matthew Allen, Jarrett Allen and Alivia Nuttall.
Croix Tryon received the Director’s Choice award, while Dean Anderson, Rachel Pope, Stetson Asay and Carissa Lindsay were selected as “Top Dawgs,” as well.
MUSIC PERFORMANCE
Fenton rounded out the evening with recognizing individuals for their hard work in music performance.
Cassie Heindl won the Director’s Choice award, and Lee Marchant won a national award, the Leonard Bernstein Musicianship Award.
Awards for Comedy Mask went to AJ Clark, Dramatic Mask to Ada Buchholz, and “Top Dawgs” were AJ Clark, Rebekah Hendershot, Trinity Heinrich and Sophie Fink.
Both directors thanked the students for their dedication to the programs and the leadership these award winners showed throughout the school year.
