LMS Bulldogs grapple at Rocky tourney

The Lovell Middle School Bulldog wrestling team competed at the Rocky Mountain Middle School Invitational in the neighboring town of Cowley Saturday. The team faced tough competitors from Cody, Powell, Riverton, Rocky Mountain, Thermopolis and Worland. Four Bulldogs managed to take first place in their respective brackets.

Eighth grader Zavier Heater worked his way through the Division B 98-pound bracket to seal first place. He maintained an undefeated record of 4-0, pinning Jason Unruh of Rocky Mountain Middle School in the finals in 24 seconds. 

Sixth grader Braxton Layne also went undefeated this weekend, taking first place in the Division B 105-pound bracket. He held a 3-0 record, pinning John Sitz of Cody Middle School in the finals to place first.

Eighth grader Christian Garcia ended the tournament in first place in the Division B 220-pound weight bracket. Garcia pinned all three of his opponents to land him in first place. 

Eighth grader Vada Schmidt took first place in the girls 120-130 division. Schmidt pinned both of her opponents to secure her place at the top of the bracket.

Second: Garrett Henley, Division A 120, 2-1 record; Manuel Garcia, Division A 138, 1-1 record; Connor Harris, Division B 126, 3-1 record; Alexander Mcillwaine, Division B 220, 2-1 record.

Third: Jasper Lopez, Division B 120, 4-1 record; Oakley Abraham, Girls Division 61-67, 1-2 record; Evalina Garcia, Girls Division 78-85, 1-2 record.

Fourth: Xaden Baxendale, Division A 77, 0-3-record; Landon Asay, Division A 105, 0-3 record; Brayden Harris, Division A 126, 0-3 record; Jordan Mangus, Division A 155, 0-2 record; Carson Grant, Division B 77, 0-3 record; Angelina Lauhoff, Girls Division 61-67, 0-3 record; Ashlynn Hitz, Girls Division 78-85, 0-3 record.

This evening (Thursday), the Bulldogs will travel to Powell to wrestle in a dual against the Powell Panthers at 5 p.m. Saturday, the team will travel to Worland for a tournament. Wrestling will start at 10 a.m. at the Worland High School Gymnasium.
