LMS Bulldogs stay tough on the mat in Worland
The Lovell Middle School Bulldog wrestling team has been working hard on the mat this past week.
On Thursday, the team attended a dual against the Powell Panters. No official scores were recorded for the dual, but it is acknowledged that the Bulldogs fell behind in scoring against the Panthers.
The team also faced new competition at the Worland Invitational this past Saturday. The Bulldog wrestlers faced some new opponents from the middle schools of Big Horn, Sheridan and Tongue River, as well as familiar opponents from Greybull, Rocky Mountain, Thermopolis and Worland.
Christopher Carabay caught the Division B 85–91-pound round robin bracket, going 2-1 overall. Though losing to Quentin Para of Worland earlier on in the matches, Carabay managed to pin Ronan Cherry of Sheridan, an opponent Para lost to in the first round of wrestling. This win secured Carabay’s first place spot in the bracket.
Landon Asay took first in the Division B 98–100-pound bracket. Asay went 3-0 this weekend, pinning two of his opponents in the first period and defeating the third by a 10-4 decision.
Jasper Lopez pinned all three of his opponents in the Division B 112-116 weight class to land him in first place this weekend.
Christian Garcia stood at the top of his bracket this weekend, placing first in the Division B 183–200-pound weight class. Garcia pinned two of his opponents in under a minute and defeated the third by a 5-2 decision.
Vada Schmidt dominated the Girls 118-127 bracket, going 3-0 overall. Schmidt faced Brayli Price of Thermopolis in the finals, pinning her in the second period at 3:29 to take first place.

This Saturday, Nov. 16, the Bulldogs will travel to wrestle at the Powell Invite. Wrestling starts at 10 a.m. at the high school gymnasium. Tuesday, the Bulldogs are scheduled to travel to a triangular against Greybull and Rocky Mountain hosted by Riverside Middle School in Basin.
