LMS eighth graders stop Cody in conference tune-up
The Lovell Middle School seventh-grade boys basketball team finished the regular season on a high note Tuesday with a win by the A team over Cody.
Playing at Cody, the Bulldogs edged the Broncs 37-36 in the A game, and the B team fell 19-16.
The A game was close, with Lovell up 16-13 at the half and Cody not backing down to the end. The game was neck and neck.
“The boys struggled through sickness, but we were able to pull out the win against Cody,” coach Collin McArthur said. Dallas Romero led the Bulldogs with 12 points, and Dax Mangus scored 10, Brhysan Henton 6, Kayan Owens 5 and both Tre Clark and Thomas Nichols 2.
For the Lovell B team, the game was close, and in the last few seconds the Bulldogs had a chance to shoot a three and tie the game. The shot didn’t fall.
McArthur said the team is preparing for the B team jamboree this Friday in Worland and the Yellowstone Conference tournament in Cody on Saturday.
Eighth grade
The Lovell eighth-grade team hosted Cody Tuesday and dropped both games. The A team fell 56-16, outscored 32-8 in the first half and 24-8 in the second. Dane Wilson scored 8 points for the Bulldogs, Bradley Mickelson 6 and Xaden Baxendale 2.
The B team fell to Cody 33-17. Cody led 17-10 at halftime and 25-17 after three, then shut out the Bulldogs 8-0 in the final quarter. Damion Craw scored 4 points for the Bulldogs, Jordan Mangus, Jackson Sanders and Alex Mcillwaine 3 each, Mason Kitchen and Brock Butler 2 apiece.
After the B team jamboree Friday in Worland, the eighth-grade A team will play in the Yellowstone Conference tournament in Worland Saturday.
