LMS Lady Bulldogs battle for control on the court

The Lovell Middle School Volleyball teams stayed strong this past weekend, facing off against opponents from Cody and Powell Saturday, then hosting Rocky Mountain on Tuesday.

The eighth-grade teams fought a tough game on the courts against the Cody Fillies Saturday.

“The girls learned a new lineup this week, and they embraced it and rose to the challenge,” head eighth-grade coach Tiffany Anderson said as the eighth-grade A team defeated Cody 2-1 in sets, 25-20, 25-21 and 15-17.

“We passed really well and played great defense,” said Coach Anderson. “We dropped the last set to them, but I was proud of their fight and never-say-die attitude.” 

The eighth grade B team endured a hard match against the Cody Fillies but ended up losing 2-1 in sets with scores of 25-18, 13-25 and 12-15.

The eighth grade A team beat Powell Saturday in three sets, 25-14, 25-15 and 15-10.

“They brought a lot more energy to this match and played very aggressively and with a lot of excitement,” Anderson said. “It is fun to watch them always rise to the occasion and bring their competitive spirit every game.”

No scores were reported for the eighth grade B team against Powell. 

The seventh-grade teams managed to keep a good volley between both Cody and Powell teams. The seventh-grade A team fought hard but ended up losing the game against Cody 2-1 in sets, 25-23, 22-25, 15-10. The seventh-grade B team lost their match against the Cody Fillies 25-11, 25-7, 15-10. 

The seventh-grade A team defeated Powell 2-1 in sets, winning 25-12 and 25-14 but losing the third set 7-15. The seventh grade B team also managed to beat Powell, winning all three sets 25-12 and 15-14
and 15-7. 

The teams also played against the Rocky Grizzlies Tuesday night where they had a great turnout. The eighth-grade team won all three sets against the Grizzlies, 25-12 and 25-15 and 15-6. 

The seventh-grade teams also reeled in some wins the other night against Rocky. The seventh-grade A team swept their opponents in all three sets, 25-9, 25-16 and 15-6. Likewise, the seventh grade B team won all three sets with scores of 25-13, 25-16 and 16-14.

“Our team really came together and played with heart against our neighboring community,” said head seventh-grade volleyball coach Marci Durtsche. “It was a great match, and I’m incredibly proud of the way we supported each other and stayed focused.”

This Saturday, the teams will play against Riverton and Lander. The eighth-grade A and B teams will play Riverton at the Johnny Winterholler Gymnasium at 10 and 11 a.m. Following  that, the eighth-grade teams will play against Lander at noon and 1 p.m. The seventh-grade teams will play in Cody against Riverton at 10 and 11 a.m. as well as Lander at noon and 1 p.m.

The Lady Bulldogs will host Greybull Tuesday at 4:15 p.m.
