Local swimmers excel at state swim meet
The Powell High School boys swimming team concluded their season at the 3A Boys State Swimming Meet on February 20-21 in Cheyenne.
During this meet, Rocky Mountain senior Will Fuller placed third in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.09, which is a huge achievement for him. Fuller also placed sixth in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:00.03.
Lovell senior Hugh Carpenter placed fourth in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:07.45 and fourth in the 100-yard fly in 54.31. Lovell junior Gabe Buchholz placed 14th in the 500-yard free with a time of 6:01.53 and 15th in the 200-yard IM in 2:22.98.
All three athletes also competed in multiple relay teams. Fuller, Carpenter and Buchholz competed on the 400-yard freestyle relay team, which placed fourth with a time of 3:31.99. Fuller and Carpenter competed on the 200-yard medley relay team, which placed third in 1:48.84. Buchholz also competed on the 200-yard freestyle relay team, which placed eighth at 1:43.67.
During the state meet, Carpenter secured a spot in the Powell High School Hall of Fame in the 400-yard relay with his leg-time being 49.70, gaining him the fifth spot. He also moved up to second in the 100-yard fly in the Hall of Fame. Powell finished fifth place overall at State with 106 points.
