As the season nears an end, the Lovell B/C Mustangs American Legion Baseball team is back on a winning streak. After dropping three in a row, the Mustangs rebounded to sweep Powell in a June 30 doubleheader, then traveled to Worland last Thursday, July 2, and swept a pair 15-8 and 11-1.

Lovell pounded Worland pitching for 15 hits in game one and led 12-0 before Worland made the final score somewhat respectable with eight runs in the final two innings.

Bradley Mickelson led the Mustangs with a four-for-four night, four runs and an RBI. Dane Wilson was 3-3 with four runs, a walk and one RBI. Easton Morgan, Xaden Baxendale and Taysen Yates had two hits apiece, with Yates ripping a double and driving in three runs. Baxendale had two RBIs.

Morgan started on the mound for the Mustangs and blanked Worland for the first two innings, not allowing a hit and striking out five. Camden Blain pitched an inning and a third, Mickelson two-thirds of a frame.

Madden Cooley threw a gem for the Mustangs in game two, allowing one unearned run in four innings of work on three hits and a walk, fanning four.

Lovell jumped on top with five runs in the top of the first inning. Wilson got things going with a two-out double, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a passed ball. The Mustangs added four more runs on a pair of two-run singles by Brhysan Henton and Adam Hill. Leading 6-1 after two, the Mustangs put the game away with three runs in the third inning and two in the fourth.

Henton led the ‘Stangs with two hits, two RBIs and three runs. Baxendale hit a solo home run in the game.

With a record of 11-3 after the sweep, the Mustangs were to host the Cody Cubs Wednesday afternoon/evening and are scheduled to wrap up the season Friday by hosting Buffalo at 5 and 7 p.m.
