Lovell eighth graders sweep Riverton and Lander
On December 6, the Lovell eighth-grade girls basketball teams traveled to Worland and played against both Lander and Riverton.
“Both opposing teams were extremely aggressive and really forced our girls to pick up their intensity and physicality,” Lovell coach Chris Edwards noted.
The A team was able to beat Riverton 28-22. During the first quarter Oakley Anderson scored 5 points, Rubie Weber, Laney Felkins and Taylor Henderson 2 each. In the second quarter, Anderson scored another 2 points, Felkins scored 4 more and Henderson scored another 2.
During the third quarter, Weber, Felkins and Henderson added 2 points each to their totals, and in a low-scoring fourth, Henderson scored 3 more points.
When asked which player stood out the most, Coach Edwards replied, “I really felt this weekend was just a good overall performance by a lot of the girls. They aren’t just relying on one or two girls to handle the ball or the scoring. Multiple girls are stepping up and contributing in many ways.”
The girls went on to play against Lander and beat the Lady Tigers 37-25.
“We had a few turnovers that came from the pressure Lander put on, but we managed to settle down as the game went on and made better decisions with the ball,” Edwards said.
Individual scoring was not available.
The Lovell girls will host the Yellowstone Conference tournament Saturday to wrap up the season, opening up against Worland at 9 a.m. at the middle school gym.
