A Lovell High School junior has been voted a member of the Class 3A West All-Conference team.
Libby Mickelson was named to the team during the past week, the only member of the Lady Bulldog netters to receive a postseason honor.
Lovell head coach Stormy Jameson said there are eight teams in the 3A West, with only 16 girls selected from the eight schools, making the all-conference team highly competitive.
“There are 16 girls selected from eight teams, and when Mountain View and Powell finish the state tournament as number one and number two and Lyman (ranked in top five all year) and Worland also qualified for State, it is super competitive to even be considered.
“It really is more like an all-region team than all-conference. 2A stays split into their four conference quadrants for all-conference, and we just do east/west conferences. So, it is a lot more prestigious in 3A. Not knocking 2A; I would rather do it their way, actually.”
Mickelson, an outside hitter, recorded 68 kills, 61 digs, 11 blocks, nine aces and 78 receptions during the eight-game conference schedule.
“I am very proud of Libby for being recognized as all-conference by the coaches from our region,” Jameson said. “We had a super competitive field of teams and individuals this season, and to achieve this honor is something special. She has worked really hard throughout her high school career to make this possible, and I expect nothing but great things from her in her senior season, as well.
“Libby was selected by her peers both her sophomore and junior seasons as a team captain, and she embraces that and leads the program both on and off the
court in a high standard. She shows up early and stays late constantly and is driven to be successful. I believe she was very deserving of this award.”
In nominating Mickelson for the award, Jameson noted that Mickelson is “the glue that holds our team together, and we revolve around her.”
