Miller contracted for Fair Event Coordinator

After interviewing four of the seven candidates for the Big Horn County Fair Event Coordinator, the county has contracted with Dusty Miller for the position. She started on April 20. Fair board chair Rebecca Bates and commission Chair Deb Craft both had high praise for all four of the interviewees.

Miller was Miss Cody Night Rodeo in 2024 and Miss Rodeo Wyoming in 2025. Her parents are Christy and Kie Miller of Cowley. She is a fourth-generation farmer.

In addition to Miss Rodeo, Miller has been involved with the county fair. Miller stated, “From my very first peewee show when I was 2 up until my last year showing in 2021, I was involved at the Big Horn County Fair. With nine years in 4-H and six years in FFA, I was able to show every animal you could: horses, steers, sheep, goats, pigs, rabbits, chickens, dogs and many static events. In turn, this will help tremendously with my year as fair manager as I not only know the shows inside and out, I understand what it takes to put on each show.”

While attending Rocky Mountain High School, Miller was an officer in FFA all four years. She received an American FFA degree, which only 1% of members do. She also has an Associate of Science Degree in Animal Science from Northwest College. Miller shared, “I have always had a deep seeded love for agriculture and the Big Horn County Fair. This job will give me the opportunity to give back to the community that has supported me so much over the years of my youth.” 

Craft said that with Miller’s background she will hit the ground running in organizing the fair. She knows about the events, how to get sponsors, advertisers and more. Bates echoed those thoughts and added that Miller has a great presence, the skills, motivation and network to get the work done.

Bates added that the county and fair board are dedicated to getting the fair done and that it is going to be a good fair. She appreciates how the community has reached out to help. Ideas for the free stage have already come in. Those include “Dress a Pet,” arm wrestling, a cookie contest, bingo and a raptor show from Buffalo Bill Center of the West.

Miller is happy to be back in the county and a part of fair, noting, “I am excited to be back and involved with the fair, to give back and to watch future generations grow the same love and passion I have for all types of animals and agriculture.”

She added, “Don’t forget to come out to the Big Horn County Fair July 27 - Aug. 2. You’ll find family-filled fun that everyone can enjoy.”
